When I reached the front of the line, Boba’s unfriendly, smiling face greeted me. “You must be a masochist,” he said in his deep voice, rumbling with soft laughter.

I jabbed a thumb over my shoulder to indicate the other people in line. “As long as I’m fighting one of them, I think I should be good.”

He pursed his lips and tilted his head from side to side. “Might be. I’ll be working with Erliah myself, but if you can make a few of those chumps look bad, maybe I’ll let you join us.”

“Are you forgetting who won our little duel?”

Boba’s face darkened and I immediately regretted bringing it up. “Kid, no one here specializes in plain martial arts. I fight with a Warhammer as big as your head and I don’t just swing it around, if you know what I mean.”

I didn’t, actually. “Isn’t that kinda what you do with hammer, though?”

Boba rolled his eyes. “I mean magic. I’m not used to fighting without it, that’s the only reason you beat me. Fighting you without killing you is like having both hands tied behind my back. But what am I saying? If you’re really gonna sign up for this class, you’ll find out soon enough,” he grinned. “Now that your basic classes are over, we’ll be moving pretty quickly. My cousin can keep up, but you? Well, there’s a reason she knocked your ass out of the tournament in the third round.”

I scoffed, but before I could fire back, Boba held up a hand. Then, he pointed it down at several lists of names. “Just sign up or don’t. There’s a line behind you, remember.”

“Whatever,” I grumbled, finding the list that read, ‘Magical Martial Arts, and doing as he said.

I had to admit, I was intrigued by what Boba said about himself. It made sense that he couldn’t show off his real abilities during our fight, and it made me wonder what he could really do. Just how far ahead of me was he? Well, I would start finding out next Monday.

After that, I went over to the Mental Magics booth. Whelan had already gone through, but Haether waited for me after signing up for Enchantments and Curses.

She stood in front of me, so I leaned over her shoulder as we spoke. “Do you know what Lilly has planned later?”

Haether smirked and back up just enough for her ass to graze the front of my pants. She raised her eyebrows.

I resisted the urge to grab her by the waist and pull her toward me. “Not that,” I said, “with Erliah.”

Haether looked around for the orc girl. “Oh, her? I don’t know. She’s probably just coming around to show off that Source of hers. I’d love to check it out after this next round of classes is over,” Haether mused to herself, continuing to watch Erliah.

I nodded to myself. It made sense that Erliah would want to show of her new magic item to us, and it made sense that Lilly could have asked Erliah to promise to share her prize with us.
